Terry Gilliam - Terry Gilliam Returning As A Director For English National Opera
Filmmaker Terry Gilliam is leaving Hollywood behind to return to the theatre as a director for the English National Opera.
The Monty Python and the Holy Grail star will direct a revival of Benvenuto Cellini at the London Coliseum in June, 2014, and the 72 year old can't wait to take on Hector Berlioz's masterpiece, about the titular Italian sculptor.
Insisting the French composer was "wonderfully ahead of his time", Gilliam adds, "He had too many ideas, he was spectacular, he was shameless, the music is so extreme - and I kind of identify with him."
But the actor, who directed a production of The Damnation of Faust for the company in 2011, worries his first-time success was just "beginners luck," joking, "Now let the truth be told."
