Captain America is getting a makeover in the comic book universe - his sidekick, Sam Wilson, is set to take over the stars and stripes costume.

The African-American character, who first appeared as the Falcon in 1969, will take over from Steve Rogers after the original Captain America is stripped of his powers in an upcoming issue of the comic series.

Wilson will then launch his own series, The All-New Captain America, later this year (14).

It is not known if the comic book promotion will affect the Captain America movies - Anthony MACkie was introduced as Falcon in this year's blockbuster sequel Captain America: The Winter Soldier.

The comic book news comes just days after Marvel bosses announced their new comic book Thor would be a woman.
