The Stones Roses will headline the Isle of Wight Festival next year.

The 'I Wanna Be Adored' rockers - made up of Ian Brown, John Squire, Mani and Reni - will take to the Main Stage at the spectacle at Seaclose Park on Friday June 14 for their only UK festival appearance of 2013 after returning to action last year following their split in 1996.

John Giddings, the Festival's promoter, said: ''When you talk about the soundtrack of our lives, The Stone Roses are embedded in it. I am so proud to get them to our island - they will kick the weekend off with a bang.''

The Stone Roses - who are to record a new album in 2013, which will be their first new material for 16 years - are the first band announced for next year's festival, which will see star-studded acts perform across three stages from June 13-16, 2013.

Last year's Isle of Wight Festival saw Bruce Springsteen, Pearl Jam and Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers headline the three-day extravaganza, and they were joined by a host of other sensational acts including Noel Gallagher's High Flying Birds, Jessie J, Labrinth and Elbow.

Tickets for next year's festival go on sale on Wednesday (28.11.12) from www.isleofwightfestival.com.
