A trailer for the forthcoming movie 'The Thing' has hit the web, giving fans a sneak peak of Dutch filmmaker MATTHIJS VAN HEIJNINGEN JR's interpretation of the classic horror tale. The upcoming flick is the third big-screen version of the 1938 sci-fi novella 'Who Goes There?' and features Joel Edgerton, Ulrich Thomsen and Mary Elizabeth Winstead.

The film is actually a prequel to John Carpenter's cult 1982 version, which itself was a remake of the 1951 movie 'The Thing from Another World'. Heijningen Jr has been developing the project for over two years, at one stage changing from a sequel to a prequel. The movie looks likely to satisfy fans of the previous flicks, with the trailer capturing "the creepy vibe and psychological terror of John Carpenter's cult-classic", according to ScreenRant.com. The 1982 movie follows a group of scientists based at a research centre in Antarctica who are suddenly confronted by an alien that assumes the appearance of the people it kills. The upcoming prequel tells the story of how the scientists initially thawed the creature from a block of ice.

'The Thing' was originally intended for release in April 2011, but Universal Pictures pushed the date back till October 14th to allow for reshoots.
