The Xx - The Xx Score First Number One Album In U.k.
British rockers The XX have beaten The Script and Bob Dylan to score their first number one in the U.K. albums chart.
The trio's sophomore release, Coexist, rocketed to the top of the countdown, forcing Irish band The Script to settle for second place with #3.
Folk icon Dylan lands at three with his new record, Tempest, while Coldplay's Mylo Xyloto and newlywed Emeli Sande's Our Version of Events round out the new top five.
Meanwhile, The Script have better news to celebrate in the singles chart - Hall of Fame, their collaboration with rapper will.i.am, climbs to the top spot, while reality TV contestant Amelia Lily is at two with You Bring Me Joy. R&B singer Ne-Yo falls two places to three with Let Me Love You (Until You Learn to Love).
A surprising re-entry came from Gerry and The Pacemakers, whose version of show tune You'll Never Walk Alone, which has become an anthem for soccer team Liverpool F.C., charted at 12 following the publication of a damning report into Britain's worst ever sporting disaster on Wednesday (12Sep12).
Previously unseen files about the 1989 Hillsborough stadium tragedy revealed "failure in police control" was the main cause of the horrific crush, which claimed the lives of 96 fans at the Sheffield, England venue.
An online campaign was launched by members of the public on Friday (14Sep12), encouraging fans to buy the song to show their support for the victims of the tragedy. Singer Gerry Marsden has promised to donate the proceeds of the re-released single to charity.
