'Thor 2' is to feature a ''major, major new antagonist''.

The comic book movie will see Chris Hemsworth reprise his role as the titular character, and Marvel Studios President of Production Kevin Feige has revealed a new villain will feature in the sequel to the 2011 fantasy movie, but it will not be Thanos.

When asked if the Marvel Comics villain will appear in 'Thor 2' to seek revenge after Loki (Tom Hiddleston) failed him in 'Avengers Assemble', he replied: ''No, future, future. But there will be a major new villain. A major, major new antagonist...''

While no-one has been unveiled as the new villain, Danish actor Mads Mikkelsen - who won the Best Actor prize at the Cannes Film Festival on Sunday (27.05.12) for his role in thriller film 'The Hunt' - has been linked with an antagonist role in the motion picture.

Kevin revealed Natalie Portman will play one of the ''biggest parts'' in the movie as she reprises her role as nurse Jane Foster - who is the secret identity of Thor - and Thor will be affected by what happened to him and his brother Loki in 'Avengers Assemble', which saw the pair do battle with each other.

Speaking to Empire magazine, Kevin added: ''It's not all polished and golden in this film. And the events of 'Avengers' will have affected Thor for sure. His relationship with Loki will continue to evolve, and the biggest part is Natalie and Thor returning with Jane Foster.''

'Thor 2' - which is also set to feature Idris Elba (Heimdall) and Anthony Hopkins (Odin) - is due to be released in the US on November 15, 2013.
