Thousands of Michael Jackson fans gathered across the U.S. on Sunday (29Aug10), to celebrate what would have been the King of Pop's 52nd birthday.
Devoted Jackson fans proved they have not forgotten about the Thriller hitmaker, who died on 25 June, 2009 - and hundreds gathered outside his childhood home in Gary, Indiana at the weekend to celebrate his life and music.
The singer was honoured with a special This Is It birthday party on Saturday (28Aug10), where Gary Mayor Rudy Clay addressed the crowd. He said: "The passing of our favourite son, Michael Jackson, is still fresh in our hearts. A year later, on the day before his birthday, we honour his memory as a great and giving person and as the world's greatest entertainer."
Filmmaker Spike Lee - who directed two of the singer's music videos in 1996 - also led tributes to the star, hosting his second annual free bash to celebrate his late pal in Brooklyn's Prospect Park.
Meanwhile, curators at Los Angeles museum The Autry Center also held a special Michael Jackson Day celebration, during which fans learned the hitmaker's signature dance moves.
