Tony Hadley's Musical Bore

Tony Hadley claims there have been no musical movements since the 80s.

The Spandau Ballet singer believes the New Romantic era - which his band were a prominent part of - was the last type of music that interlinked with fashion to create a whole way of being.

He said: "If you look at it in sort of musical terms, it was the last decade where there was a specific movement that was attached to the fashion thing as well, and although there was Culture Club, Duran Duran, Depeche Mode, Classic Nouveaux, we all had our different sounds. It was very individual, all the bands were very individual, but we were all part of this kind of… I mean, the early 80s, this New Romo thing.

"It was a weird era, both socially, economically, musically, fashion-wise, it was an exciting time."

When asked to choose his career highlight, the singer opted for 1985 charity event Live Aid.

He explained to Absolute 80s presenter Geoff Lloyd: "There was getting our first record in our hands in 1980, 'To Cut A Long Story Short', first number one in our home country, 'True', which was number one in the UK and in 21 countries around the world, and probably Live Aid, yeah, probably Live Aid I think.

"We were on the single, 'Do They Know Its Christmas', plus we were at Live Aid itself, which was probably one of the biggest moments in my life, absolutely amazing, it really was."
