One of Tanzania's most famous soap stars, Steven Kanumba, has died after suffering a serious head injury during an argument with his girlfriend.
The 28 year old is said to have accidentally fallen and hit his head while arguing with actress Elizabeth Michael on Saturday (07Apr12). He collapsed and lost consciousness, according to TheCitizen.co.tz.
He was admitted to a local hospital in the city of Dar es Salaam with brain damage, but doctors were unable to save him and he was declared dead later that night.
Michael, known to locals as Lulu, is currently being questioned by police.
A public funeral was held for Kanumbra on Monday (09Apr12) and thousands of fans lined the streets to pay their respects to the actor known as The Great.
Kanumba made his mark in local TV and film projects in Tanzania, Ghana and Nigeria in recent years, and he was on the verge of taking on more international work.
