Mc Hammer has led tributes for late rapper Heavy D.

The 'U Can't Touch This singer' hitmaker took to hid twitter account to praise the hip-hop star - who reportedly died of a suspected heart attack after walking up stairs at his Beverly Hills apartment - for his "heart of gold".

He tweeted: "We had a lot of great times touring together. He had a heart of gold. He was a part of what's good about the world."

Heavy - whose real name is Dwight Arrington Myers - last performed at the Michael Jackson tribute concert last month, and he was joined on stage by La Toya Jackson, who also paid tribute to him on twitter.

She wrote: "My heart goes out to the family and (loved) ones of Heavy D. I am sooo sorry for your (loss). You will be in my prayers (sic)".

A host of other rappers composed messages about him on the social networking site, including Diddy - whose real name is Sean Combs - who said Heavy's death has broken his heart.

He tweeted: "Heavy D is the person who gave me my 1st chance in the music industry. He got me my internship at Uptown. He believed when no one else did.

"My heart is broken. Pls pray for my man Heavy D and his family. PLS. love you boy. 4ever! (sic)"
