British Transport Police (BTP) released a statement confirming officers were contacted at around 10:00 BST today after reports a body had been found in a remote area of the railway station.
Police said the circumstances surrounding the man's death were subject to an ongoing investigation but confirmed he had not been not by a train and that the death was currently being treated as "unexplained".
The BTP statement did say however: "Officers believe the deceased to be that of reported missing person, 42-year-old Mark Speight."
Police said that they had notified next-of kin and a formal identification of the body would be made tomorrow.
CCTV footage from the train station has been removed by police officers as has the body.

Ms Collins was found dead at the couple's north London flat and a subsequent post mortem found she had ingested cocaine, sleeping pills and alcohol before her death. She was discovered in a bath tub suffering from burns on 60 per cent of her body.
Speight had been missing since April 7th after failing to meet up with Ms Collins' mother in central London.
