Almost 200 unseen photographs documenting the heyday of the British punk movement and featuring icons including Sid Vicious and The Clash will be released next month (Apr13).

Snapper Sheila Rock is opening up her personal archives to reveal intimate and candid shots of notorious late-1970s bands including the Sex Pistols, Buzzcocks, and Subway Sect.

One of the most startling images shows Glen Matlock giggling as he holds aloft a smiling Sid Vicious, who acrimoniously replaced him as bassist in the Sex Pistols just months before the photo was taken.

The 272-page hardback tome, which costs up to $160 (£100) for the deluxe edition, also features captions and quotes from stars including The Clash bassist Paul Simonon and Steven Severin, of Siouxsie and The Banshees.

Rock tells Mojo magazine, "I see the book as a very positive expression of the energy of the time... (Punk) was never anti-social, it had that face but it was almost like theatre."

Punk+ will be available online from 29 April (13).
