NBC nowadays rarely plants an entertainment show at the top of the Nielsen ratings list -- but it did this week with the Tuesday edition of The Voice. The singing competition also tied for third on the Nielsen list. (NBC's next highest entertainment show on the Nielsen list was Donald Trump's Celebrity Apprentice at No. 45.) Neither Voice show posted huge audiences. Each attracted about 14 million viewers. But they were enough to give the network a second-place tie with CBS in the key 18-49 age group. Among total adults, CBS kept its crown for the eighth straight week and posted the only scripted series in the Nielsen top ten: NCIS, which tied for fifth place, and two back-to-back installments of The Big Bang Theory that took ninth and tenth places respectively. In a week marked by big breaking news stories, ratings for all three evening news programs soared. NBC Nightly News with Brian Williams once again was the clear winner, averaging 9.8 million viewers. ABC World News with Diane Sawyer placed second with 8.5 million viewers, followed by the CBS Evening News with Scott Pelley with 7.3 million. NBC's primetime coverage of the Boston marathon bombings on Monday night also landed in the top 20 (at No. 16) with 8.8 million viewers, and its Rock Center with Brian Williams grabbed its biggest audience to date with 6.8 million viewers. For the week overall, CBS led with a 5.3 household rating and a 9 share. ABC came in second with a 4.3/7. NBC took third place with a 3.5/6, edging out Fox with a 3.4/6.
