Actress Viola Davis was honoured for her philanthropy at a prizegiving in Los Angeles on Saturday (27Oct12).

The Help star was the guest of honour at the Friendly House Awards Luncheon Gala at The Beverly Hilton Hotel, where she received the Woman of the Year prize.

Comic Russell Brand hosted the event, which was staged by Friendly House, an organisation which helps women recovering from alcoholism and drug addiction. Davis is a longtime supporter of the cause.
