Incarcerated rapper Lil Wayne will escape further jail time after reportedly striking a deal with U.S. prosecutors and pleading guilty to a 2008 drugs charge, according to a new report.
The Lollipop hitmaker is currently serving 12 months behind bars at New York's Rikers Island prison, after he was convicted of illegal weapons possession in an earlier case.
The rapper - real name Dwayne Carter - has also been embroiled in another legal case, stemming from a 2008 incident when authorities allegedly found cocaine, ecstasy and a handgun on his tour bus at a border checkpoint in Dateland, Arizona.
He was arrested and pleaded not guilty to a string of weapons and drugs charges, but is now said to have agreed a deal with Arizona officials in Yuma County Superior Court after appearing via a live video feed on Friday (18Jun10).
Lil Wayne reportedly entered a guilty plea to one count of possession of a dangerous drug, and now faces 36 months probation, which is slated to begin once his current sentence in New York ends.
Remaining charges, including misconduct involving weapons, possession of drug paraphernalia and of a narcotic drug for sale, will be dismissed, reports YumaSun.com.
