Whitney Houston's brother Michael feels responsible for the superstar's death because he introduced her to drugs.

The I Will Always Love You hitmaker's addictions were usually blamed on her troubled ex-husband Bobby Brown, who many believed was behind her fall from grace, which resulted in her drowning last February (12) due to heart disease and the effects of cocaine use.

Now the tragic star's older sibling Michael Houston has spoken out to set the record straight and dispel the rumours, confessing he got Whitney hooked on illegal substances during the 1980s, long before she met the New Edition star.

During an interview on U.S. chat show Oprah's Next Chapter, which aired in America on Monday (28Jan13), he said, "I think probably the first time she ever did it (cocaine), it was with me. But you have to understand during the '80s, it was acceptable to the entertainment world. It was available, it wasn't a bad word... (like it is) now. We just didn't know (about the dangers of it)... We were travelling, we were on the road, we were young, (in our) late 20s, (we) had money, we just got caught up. And it's been a battle ever since...

"It's painful. I feel responsible for (her drug problems), that I let it go so far... I taught her to drive. We played together... and then when you get into drugs, you do that together too, it just got out of hand. Drugs are rough."

Michael also insists he will never forgive himself for setting a bad example to his little sister: "(It's) something I'll live with for the rest of my life."

Michael also reveals Whitney was adamant he shouldn't accept the blame for her problems, adding, "She always told me, 'I'll never let anyone make you feel bad or responsible for what I do. I'm a grown woman.'"
