Will Ferrell - Will Ferrell Backs Steve Carell To Win An Emmy
Will Ferrell is campaigning for Steve Carell to win an Emmy for his final performance in TV comedy series The Office, insisting it will be "a crime" if the funnyman doesn't pick up gold at the prizegiving.
Carrel's farewell to the show, as awkward boss Michael Scott, aired in America last week (28Jun11) and Ferrell, who was a guest on the special show, admits he was blown away by his friend's acting abilities in the emotional finale.
Farrell, who portrays oddball Deangelo Vickers in The Office, reveals his main objective for taking on the role was to work with his pal during his final scenes.
And the Elf star was so impressed by Carell's performance, he's convinced the actor should be a frontrunner to win a Best Actor trophy at the Primetime Emmy Awards later this year (11).
He tells Access Hollywood, "The main reason I did (The Office) was just to work with Steve in his last season. We hadn't worked together in so long, so it was wonderful to kind of join up with him again, and pretty special to be part of his last couple of weeks on the show.
"I think (the writers) did such a nice job with that last episode, of making it funny, but emotional and poignant. And if Steve doesn't win an Emmy, it's a crime. As long as I win an Emmy, that'll be fine. But if Steve doesn't, for sure, it's a crime."
