Will 'Men In Black 3' Success Mean 'Men In Black 4'?

As has been widely reported, 'Men in Black 3' did what 'Dark Shadows', 'Battleships' and 'The DICtator' have all failed to do in recent weeks - topple 'The Avengers' from the top of the U.S. box office. The Marvel comics movie had spent over five weeks at the top of pile - taking over $1 billion in the process - though defeating Will Smith's sci-fi comedy proved a bridge too far for Robert Downey Jr and company.

Sony's third alien-zapping movie - which cost $230 million to make - took around $70 million over the four day Memorial Weekend. The movie will easily become Smith's thirteenth film to earn over $100 million at the box-office - an impressive feat that will no doubt leave studio bosses anxious to sign him up for another film. With the advent of 3-D cinema, and the success of having Josh Brolin join the cast, the door has been left open for a fourth movie in the franchise. It's been ten years since the last Men in Black movie hit cinemas, though its popularity doesn't appear to have waned, and its $70 million takings will also be music to the ears of DAN ACKROYD. The actor is currently working on the third Ghostbusters movie - a movie series that hasn't had an outing in theaters since 1989. Bill Murray has remained unconvinced that contemporary audiences will take to a third movie, allegedly shredding the script before sending back a note that read, "No one wants to pay money to see fat, old men chasing ghosts".

'Men in Black 3' is set to come under immediate pressure at the top of the box-office, with 'Snow White and the Huntsman' set for release on Friday (May 1, 2012).
