Willie Nelson - Willie Nelson Greets Hordes Of Fans At Statue Unveiling
Willie Nelson was greeted by huge crowds in his home state of Texas on Friday (20Apr12) as a bronze statue of the star was erected in his honour.
The country legend turned up in Austin to greet his hordes of fans as the eight feet (2.43 metres) tall piece was unveiled at 4.20pm, a reference to the cultural significance of the 4/20 pro-marijuana movement, of which pot-loving Nelson is an avid supporter.
As he laid eyes on the statue, an impressed Nelson praised sculptor Clete Shields' work, saying, "I thought he did a pretty darn good job."
And Nelson couldn't help but bring up the date's connection to cannabis, shouting to the crowd, "What time is it? I can feel it's getting close to something."
The singer continued the celebrations by playing a gig in the city that evening.
