Winslet Plans Oscar Party
Kate Winslet is hoping for glory at next weekend's (22Feb09) Academy Awards - but will celebrate with a party even if she doesn't walk away with a trophy.
The 33-year-old is nominated in the Best Actress category for her role in post-war drama The Reader and will fight it out with Anne Hathaway, Angelina Jolie, Melissa Leo and Meryl Streep for the honour.
But even if Winslet doesn't scoop gold on the night, she's still planning on marking her sixth Oscar nomination with a bash for friends and family.
She says, "You just don't know what's going to happen. This is my sixth nomination, so it will be the sixth time I've attended an Oscar ceremony and that in itself is a great honour.
"I don't take the nominations for granted. If it happens, then great. If it doesn't then I'm still going to have a party."
And the Titanic star is overjoyed that husband Sam Mendes will be able to accompany her to the ceremony, after he missed out on being by her side when she walked away with trophies at the weekend's (08Feb09) BAFTA Awards in London and the Screen Actors Guild Awards in Los Angeles last month (Jan09).
Winslet adds, "Just watch him at the Oscars; he'll be stellar and wonderful. He's so calming and together, whereas as far as the Oscars are concerned, I'm so damned nervous."
