Hip-hop star Rick Ross has come under fire from women's rights activists after rapping about using a date rape drug in a controversial new song.

The Aston Martin Music hitmaker, real name William Roberts Ii, hit headlines recently after featuring on fellow rapper Rocko's track U.O.E.N.O. (You Ain't Even Know It) and appearing to suggest that he condones the use of illegal substances to subdue a date.

He spits, "Put molly (slang for pure ecstasy) all in her champagne/ She ain't even know it/ I took her home and I enjoyed that/ She ain't even know it."

Now protester Lolia Etomi has launched a petition on Change.org urging members of the public to express their disdain at his lyrics and force Ross to issue a public apology for seemingly glorifying rape and violence against women.

In her call for action, she writes, "If what he is saying is true, (they are) not just meaningless lyrics he has just publicly admitted to drugging and raping a woman. This should be investigated further and he should be prosecuted. If it is not true and they are just lyrics, he has still just glorified rape and this should not be ignored...

"The dominant rape culture today has come from people ignoring and even glorifying statements like this because the song sounds good in the club. You don't have to be a feminist to support this, but roofy-ing and rape are very serious and shockingly common problems, so if you are not comfortable with them, then please sign this to ensure that some sort of action is taken and RIck Ross is held responsible."
