Stevie Wonder - Wonder To Donate $10,000 A Year So Blind People Can Feel King's Face
Stevie Wonder has created a foundation for blind visitors to fully experience the majesty of DR. Martin Luther King, JR.'s new memorial in Washington, D.C.
King's face and torso have been carved in stone and the memorial will officially be unveiled at the National Mall next week (beg29Aug11).
Sightless soul man Wonder was able to touch his hero's stone face during a ceremony earlier this week (beg22Aug11) - and now he's making it possible for other blind people to get a feel for the monument.
Announcing his plans at a gala on Wednesday night (24Aug11), Wonder said, "Through the Wonder Foundation, I commit $10,000 (Gbp6,250) a year that will allow as many people that are blind to go up in the cherry picker (crane) to see this."
