Wyclef Jean is stepping in to replace his former Fugees bandmate Lauryn Hill as a headlining act at Switzerland's upcoming Montreux Jazz Festival after she pulled out citing illness.
The Doo Wop (That Thing) star scrapped her entire European tour earlier this month (Jun09), leaving organisers of the Swiss event scrambling to fill her slot at late notice.
But Jean has saved the day and will perform in Hill's place at the 11 July (09) concert - his only European show this summer (09), reports AllHipHop.com.
A statement from festival organisers reads: "Wyclef has broken down the barriers of hip-hop and infused his music with the sounds of reggae, rock and folk...
"He and his group are travelling specially from the United States for what will be his only European date this summer, after having refused several other offers from various festivals."
The Black Eyed Peas, Chaka Khan, B.B. King and Herbie Hancock are among the artists also scheduled to hit the stage during the 16-day festival, which begins on 3 July (09).
