Alex Pettyfer is set to play a stripper in 'Magic Mike'.

The 'I Am Number Four' actor will be directed by Steven Soderbergh in the movie, which is based on the real life experience of Channing Tatum as a young man working in the adult entertainment world.

Channing will take part in the project as the titular character, who will be a mentor to Alex, Deadline.com reports.

As well as stripping, Alex will be seen enjoying a summer with "wild summer of dancing, partying and women".

Nick Wechsler and Gregory Jacobs are producing the movie, which is scripted by Reid Carolin and is thought to have a 'Saturday Night Fever' style.

The British actor - who recently broke up with 'Glee' star Dianna Agron - most recently starred in 'Beastly', and will next be seen alongside Justin Timberlake and Amanda Seyfried in 'In Time' - a sci-fi drama directed by Andrew Niccol previously known as 'Now'.

He also revealed he was hoping to reprise his character John Smith in sequels to 'I Am Number Four'.

He said: "I would play him over and over and over again. I just hope people go and watch this movie and really enjoy it and help us get to make a second, third, fourth, so we can see where all these characters can go."
