Nicolas Cage's new movie KNOWING has shot to the top of the U.K. box office chart in its first week of release.
The sci-fi thriller, about a boy who discovers a cryptic premonition, took $3.5 million (£2.5 million) in its opening weekend (28-29Mar09) - displacing Marley & Me from the number one spot.
The family dog drama, starring Jennifer Aniston and Owen Wilson, dropped a place to number two, garnering $2.4 million (£1.7 million).
New horror release The Haunting in Connecticut was the third most popular film in British cinemas, with takings of $1.5 million (£1.1 million), while comedy Paul Blart: Mall Cop dropped to number four, grabbing $1.4 million (£1 million).
The Damned United, a biopic of late English soccer legend Brian Clough, debuted at number five with earnings of $885,000 (£618,929).
