Nicole Kidman, Hugh Jackman and Naomi Watts were among the stars who turned out to celebrate their Australian roots at a special gala in Los Angeles on Saturday night (12Jan13).

The G'Day Usa gala at the JW Marriott hotel in L.A. was hosted by Aussie supermodel Elle MACpherson and the party included honours for Crocodile Dundee star Paul Hogan, actress Rose Byrne and John Travolta.

Travolta's Grease co-star Olivia Newton-John presented an award to Hogan and said of her fellow Australian, "He really did show the more obvious traits of the Down Under illusion way back then and everyone fell in love with him."

Kidman, who first met her husband Keith Urban at the gala eight years ago, was also in attendance and told reporters she will always have a special affection for the event because of that chance meeting: "As we kissed our daughters goodbye when we headed out tonight we kind of went, 'Wow, it's amazing how life plays out'. Look what happened from that chance meeting. We now have a two year old and a four year old who are waving us bye."

Other famous faces at the gala included Oscar-nominated actress Jacki Weaver, model Miranda Kerr, Muriel's Wedding star Toni Collette, Liam Hemsworth, Simon Baker, Ryan Kwantan and Anthony LaPaglia.
