Nightmare And The Cat Autumn 2013 Details Tour With Bastille & Little Daylight

The Simple EP features five songs that will also be included on Nightmare And The Cat's debut full-length album Simple, which will be released by Capitol early next year. Produced by Eric Valentine (who produced one of the brothers' favorite albums (Queens of the Stone Age's Songs for the Deaf)) the EP is a stellar introduction to the group's gorgeously dramatic, atmospheric anthems. Underground L.A. artist Gary Baseman, one of the band's earliest supporters who has painted new compositions (and Django himself) during their live performances, designed the EP and album artwork, as well as the band's striking logo.
Nightmare and the Cat formed in 2010 after Sam asked Django to join him for a songwriting session in Los Angeles. The brothers grew up in England where Django saw his older sibling pick up a guitar for the first time at age 12 and immediately master a Nirvana songbook. The two pursued parallel musical paths - Sam with Blondelle, Django with Midnight Squires - but knew they were on to something special when they began writing together. Nightmare and the Catis rounded out by Claire Acey, an accomplished singer and multi-instrumentalist, and former Midnight Squires drummer Spike Phillips and bassist Scott Henson.
Sam calls "Simple" the EP's "defining track" because "it sets the tone for everything it's about." (As listeners will soon find out, Nightmare and the Cat's music is anything but simple.) "It's about relationships within your family, how people are trying to hide stuff but it always comes out in the end," Sam explains. "Goodbye So Many Times" is the group's version of a classic pop song inspired by '60s girl groups like the Ronettes and the Crystals. "Alvarado" is a quasi-love letter to L.A.'s Echo Park neighborhood, where the brothers have lived. "It's about opening your eyes to L.A., but the lyrics are kind of bittersweet," Django explains. "We do that a lot in our music."
Nightmare and the Cat have been making a name for themselves as an electrifying live act for the past few years. After a show at NYC's Mercury Lounge, The New York Times called them "a rock 'n' roll force to be reckoned with," adding that "with moves not seen since Elvis Presley last took the stage, Django and his cohorts are utterly captivating to watch and bring an energy to their live show that is increasingly rare."
