The Vampire Diaries season four premiere has left fans with a number of questions about the series.

The supernatural drama returned to TV screens last night (11.10.12) and it left several viewers posing queries about the programme on internet forums and among themselves, such as, ''How will Elena fare as a vampire?''

Elena - who is played by Nina Dobrev - was warned by Stefan, who is portrayed by Paul Wesley, that becoming a vampire will be the ''worst thing you'll ever live through''.

He told her: ''I wish I could tell you that you'll never feel pain, that you'll never crave blood, but you will. It will be the worst thing you'll ever live through. Just how much will Elena crave blood, and what lengths will she go to get it?''

This led to fans questioning how much Elena will crave blood during the series and whether she will even remain a vampire.

But Paul may have partly answered that query after recently revealing a lot of season four will focus on attempting to reclaim Elena's humanity.

He previously said: ''I think, and I don't know if I'm allowed to say this, but I think a lot of it is going to be about trying to figure out a way to reverse that.''
