Legendary Australian music venue The Palace, which has played host to Nirvana, Foo Fighters and Iggy Pop, is to be demolished after it was destroyed in a fire on Wednesday (11Jul07).
The popular Melbourne haunt, which has also seen performances by British rockers Kasabian and Arctic Monkeys, was gutted in a blaze which broke out around 3pm local time.
Authorities have yet to say whether there are any suspicious circumstances surrounding the incident, but reports claim the building is likely to be knocked down soon as it is no longer safe to operate as a concert hall.
The neighbouring Palais Theatre and fairground Luna Park were not affected by the fire.
