Black Lips guitarist Cole Alexander took to the stage at a concert in New York on Tuesday (19Nov13) to pay tribute to two members of The Yellow Dogs, who were murdered earlier this month (Nov13).

Guitarist Soroush Farazmand and his brother, drummer Arash, were killed in a shootout at the Brooklyn home they shared with a third victim last week (11Nov13). Suspect Raefe Ahkbar opened fire before turning his gun on himself.

Alexander met the band members after watching a documentary about their back story.

He tells NME.com, "What's so tragic is that they came to America to be safe. For them to be murdered - in Brooklyn of all places - is just beyond comprehension. I commend that band so much - they put themselves on the line for rock n' roll, they were incredibly brave kids, and their deaths are just totally tragic. I wish more bands were as brave as The Yellow Dogs."

Nada Surf, Kyp Malone of TV On The Radio and Luke Temple of Here We Go Magic also performed at the tribute concert on Monday night (18Nov13).

The Yellow Dogs formed in 2006 and moved from Tehran, Iran to Brooklyn, New York in 2010. Siavash Karampour and Koory Mirzeai are the only two surviving members of the group.
