Noel Gallagher, the former Oasis guitarist and songwriter, has announced details of his first album following his split from brother Liam in 2009. Gallagher will release 'Noel Gallagher and his High Flying Birds' on 17th October 2011 - one of two albums already in the can.
Speaking at a press conference in London, Gallagher revealed both albums will be distributed by his own label, Sour Mash Records. The second album, a collaboration with Amorphous Androgynous, is regarded as a "companion" to the first and will hit shelves in 2012. Musicians appearing on the records include drummer Jeremy Stacey (The Lemon Trees), keyboard player Mike Rowe (Oasis) and the legendary American percussionist Lenny Castro, best known for playing on records by the Rolling Stones, Stevie Wonder and Elton John. The guitarist also announced plans to tour with the 'High Flying Birds' band from October 2011, but further details are not yet known. Noel announced his departure from Oasis after a fight with his brother in 2009 - a little after midnight on 29th August, the guitarist posted a statement on his message board explaining he could no longer work with his controversial younger sibling.
Noel Gallagher gave his first post-Oasis performance at the Royal Albert Hall on 25th March 2011, playing at the Teenage Cancer Trust. He was supported by Manchester band The Courteeners and PLAN B.
