Disgraced Japanese pop star Noriko Sakai has divorced her surfer husband after 12 years of marriage.
The singer's reputation was tainted last year (09) after she was handed a suspended 18-month jail term for drug possession.
Her spouse, Yuichi Takaso, faced similar charges for the stash of methamphetamines found in their home and he was sentenced to two years behind bars, although the punishment was also suspended for three years.
The judge ruled that Takaso took the illegal stimulants and had encouraged his wife to take them, too.
Sakai, 39, was reported to be seeking a divorce from Takaso, 42, following the drugs bust and their separation was made legal this month (Jul10).
A statement from her former management firm Sun Music Production reads: "We have confirmed that their divorce became official in July (10)."
And the company's vice president, Masahisa Aizawa, hopes the marriage split will help Sakai focus on getting her life and career back on track.
He says, "I feel relieved to learn that their divorce is final. It assures us that she is determined to correct herself."
Custody details for the former couple's 11-year-old son have not been released.
