Frank Ocean: My First Lover Was A Man
Frank Ocean, one of the members of controversial rap troupe Odd Future, has come out about his sexuality, admitting that the first person he fell in love with was a man when he was 19 years old. In a poignant post on his Tumblr, Ocean revealed his orientation in a letter that he claimed was meant for the liner notes of his album, only to have to let people know now as rumours had been building.
"4 summers ago, I met somebody. I was 19 years old. He was too" Ocean wrote. "We spent that summer, and the summer after, together. Everyday almost. And on the days we were together, time would glide. Most of the day I'd see him, and his smile. Sleep I would often share with him. By the time I realised I was in love, it was malignant. It was hopeless. There was no escaping, no negotiating to the women I had been with, the ones I cared for and thought I was in love with."
Ocean continued to say that he felt free having admitted this, writing "I don't know what happens now, and that's alrite. I don't have any secrets I need kept anymore. There's probably some small shit still, but you know what I mean. I was never alone, as much as it felt like it. As much as I still do sometimes. I never was. I don't think I ever could be. Thanks. To my first love, I'm grateful for you." The news comes as interesting given that Tyler the Creator, friend of Ocean and front man of Odd Future has drawn criticism for use of the word f***ot in his lyrics. He has come out on Twitter to support his friend though.
