Actress Olivia Wilde ended her nine-year marriage to Italian prince Tao Ruspoli because she could no longer "pretend" she was happy in her love life.
The Tron: Legacy star split from Ruspoli at the end of last year (10) and began divorce proceedings in March (11).
She's adamant the break-up was amicable, but felt it necessary to walk away from the marriage when she realised it was taking too much effort to keep it together.
She tells Marie Claire magazine, "After really trying to make the relationship evolve in the way our lives had, I realised it wasn't a natural evolution.
"When the relationship becomes about working to make it work, it's lost that beauty and that optimistic bohemian sense that brought us together. I don't think love should be work. My parents have been married for 35 years. They said, 'You have to work at it. That's what it takes.' But we tried, and it wasn't making us happy.
"In the end, maybe it's just that I'm a ridiculous romantic. I have very high standards for every part of life - my work, my relationships, food, love. I can't just pretend."
