French actor Olivier Martinez has won damages from a British tabloid over claims he cheated on ex-girlfriend Kylie Minogue.
In November 2007, Martinez launched legal action for libel against The Sun newspaper over a story claiming he had slept with another woman during his four-year relationship with the Aussie superstar.
Martinez claimed the publication had used defamatory and libellous language, and on Thursday (08Oct09) a judge a London's High Court agreed - ordering The Sun to apologise for the allegation, and to pay undisclosed damages and legal costs.
A lawyer for News Group Newspapers Ltd said, "The defendant sincerely apologises to the claimant for the distress and embarrassment this article has caused. It accepts that the allegations are untrue and ought never to have been published."
The actor's lawyer said, "This false allegation has caused Mr. Martinez considerable embarrassment and distress.
"Mr. Martinez is glad that The Sun has accepted that the allegations are false and that the article should never have been published at all."
Martinez and Minogue split in February 2007.
