Boyband One Direction will ring in 2013 on a high note after they were named the U.K.'s most in-demand live act ahead of The Rolling Stones and Coldplay.

The Brown Sugar hitmakers played two sold-out dates at London's O2 Arena in November (12), with tickets fetching thousands of dollars online as fans scrambled to secure seats to see the highly-anticipated 50th anniversary shows.

However, demand to see the Stones has been outstripped by pop stars One Direction, who have been named the most in-demand band of 2012 by officials at ticket sales website Viagogo.co.uk.

One Direction topped the list, followed by Coldplay and The Rolling Stones in second and third place respectively.

In the solo artist category, singer Emeli Sande was named most popular ahead of superstars such as Madonna, Lady Gaga and Justin Bieber.
