One Direction singer Louis Tomlinson and Liam Payne ditched their band-mates to try their hand at surfing off the Australian coast this week. In scenes similar to those featured in the opening sequences to The Monkees 1960's television show, the boys took to the waves at Sydney's Manly Beach and were later spotted fooling around on the beach, reports the UK's Metro newspaper
Despite a rocky start that saw the pair crashing into the waves, the boys appeared to get the hang of it and even managed to strike a pose on their boards. Impressed with his new skills, Liam later tweeted, "Me and louis just went surfing... louis was up first and for a long 1 like 30 Feet!!!!!! Omg then i stood up un two nice waves woohoo". Despite being greeted by thousands of screaming fans during their trek around Australia, it hasn't always been plain sailing for the British singers. According to the UK's Sun newspaper, Zayn Malik and Louis got lost during a hunt for Barbadian beauty Rihanna - who they knew was in Sydney promoting her new movie 'Battleship'. The boys took off on their own without a security escort, but their plan failed as they got lost and had no idea where they were.
The band are set to perform at Australia's Logie television awards later this week, with organizers said to be "expecting the very worst" from excitable fans looking to catch a glimpse of their favourite new boy-band.
