I'm a Rocket man……..

Oh what a great job I've got…….As you may have gathered
from my other reviews of Battlefield 1942 I am totally addicted
to this title and all its add-on, so once this new eagerly awaited
instalment reached my desk and with the news I was working
from home for a couple of days I set about testing the Secret
Weapons of WWII.

I should state here that I am usually very sceptical of expansion
packs, in fact I really believe that many of the ones on the market
now should be available as free (or small charge) downloads to
owners of the game. EA in fact have already done this with the
superb battle of Britain Map available for free download from:

so I won't go on about this now.....

On to the game…..The idea behind this pack is to take some of the weapons that were being developed during WWII , many of which never saw combat and give you a chance to see how they would handle on the battlefield. Containing 8 new maps usually something to do with airfields and supposed sightings of strange UFO style aircraft (starting to sound like the X-Files) and a plethora of new and exciting vehicles this expansion can really rekindle your love for the game. The game play hasn't changed its still as smooth and graphically appealing as ever and the new vehicles are rendered to the qualities we have come to expect from this title. There are already plenty of multiplayer servers up and running for SWWWII so there are going to be plenty of other addicts around the world to pit these machines against. By the way if you see Ant (UK) don't shoot, I am just a journalist!

Now the goodies….Each side has a great selection of new weapons to choose from spanning the likes motorcycles with machine gun toting sidecars all the way to jet powered flying wings with some serious fire power. There is a selection of small jet fighters including the McDonnell F-85 Goblin probably one of the strangest look jet fighters ever imagined. There are tanks with all manner of modified tanks carrying naval guns, antiaircraft guns, rocket launchers and so on. One of the handiest vehicles I found was the Schwimmwagen which as you probably gathered from the name is an amphibian; this small Jeep sized vehicle is perfect for covering large areas of watery maps as it's perfectly at home on both land and water. I had no luck with the rocket pack; I just bounced up and down a couple of times until I was finally put out of my misery but give it a go anyway. There are surface to air guided rockets, a number of new handheld weapons and a new C-47 cargo plane that can act as a mobile spawn point.

Overall the pack doesn't make the game anymore playable just a little more enjoyable so if moneys tight download the Battle of Britain map above. On the other hand if you're a total addict like me go out and get it now…….

See you on the battlefield….
