"On the horror film techniques, I have been pursuing the skills and possibilities on my own from many angles. The film could look overly surrealistic, once the direction went wrong. It has been three years since I made RING 2. Working on films in different genre has shown me new ways to direct horror films. When it comes to a horror film, portraying a surrealistic daily life with entertainment elements could lead to the best subject. DARK WATER by Koji Suzuki is an exceptionally brilliant modern-horror with a classic writing-style to portray terror, blending an indispensable item in our daily life "water" and "city space" such as apartments or condos. Reading this story, I couldn't help feeling extremely intense terror and anxiety. The storytelling style of Yoshimi, the main character, speaking to herself heightens the horror buried in our daily life to the maximum. Upon visualizing this story, I intend to throw audience into confusion on how they feel. Having made three horror films, all the skills I have gained will be reflected on the screen to the maximum. Finally, if the theme of this film, the eternal relationship of "mother and her child" somehow remains in the audience after experiencing this film, it will be rewarding to me."
