METALLICA PLAY AT SAN QUENTIN PRISON
On Wednesday 30th April, Metallica shot the video for the title track of their forthcoming album "St. Anger" at the Big House - San Quentin Prison in San Francisco, USA. The band entered the prison at 7 a.m.- when they took their first steps into the prison grounds, they knew this would not be just another video shoot.

The first thing the band were told by their designated correctional officer was "San Quentin has a 'no hostage policy' - which means if someone gets taken hostage, there will be no negotiating, you are on your own, buddy".

The video was shot with the band performing at various locations

throughout the compound - outside during the prisoner's lunchbreak and inside the cell block. Everyone involved were authentic inmates and correctional officers. One of the main correctional officers said that the response from the inmates was overwhelming - the feeling was mutual from the Metallica camp.

The next day, the band went back to the prison and played a special show for the inmates - this was the first show they have played with their new bass player - Robert Trujillo. They played for an hour, and the set list was: Creeping Death, For Whom The Bell Tolls, Seek and Destroy, Fade To Black, Fuel, Sad But True, Master of Puppets, One, Enter Sandman and Battery.

The video was directed by the Malloy Brothers

'St. Anger' released 5th June 2003 - the album was originally set for release on 9th June but has been moved forward due to demand from fans!
