SEAFOOD - Good Reason - Single Review

SEAFOOD
Good Reason
(19/04/04Cooking Vinyl)

The murkily melodious Seafood seem to enjoy being served on another plate, as this single extracted from their third album ‘As The Cry Flows’, is their debut for Cooking Vinyl and they seem to have a new lease of life. ‘Good Reason’ is a lively and dark number in which singer David Line’s Sufer Rosa era Frank Black meets Tim Wheeler style vocals, give the track some real feeling. Despite the cynical nature of the song being a hate filled swipe at the dissipation of trust at the hands of someone close to you, ‘Good Reason’ has ascending and uplifting guitar fuelled instrumentals that have been the trademark of the Foo Fighters over the years.

SEAFOOD - Good Reason - Single Review

Having tempted listeners to follow their new direction with their previously released free download single ‘Summer Falls’ (www.cookingvinyl.com/seafood/free download), ‘Seafood’ are only going to improve on this following. The B-sides bring out the group’s tender side with the slow burning ‘Last Outpost’ building up nicely to a crescendo of soulful lead singing and backing vocals complemented by tunefully thunderous instrumentals.
