SMALL FACES - ULTIMATE COLLECTION released 26th May 2003 on Sanctuary Records

2003 marks the 35th anniversary of the seminal Small Faces' album Ogden's Nut Gone Flake and Sanctuary are proud to release the 'Ultimate Collection', a superb 50-track 2-CD compilation tracking the extraordinary musical career of this landmark British band.

This really is the ultimate collection. Despite a plethora of CDs on the market, none come close to fully representing the music of the Small Faces, from their debut in 1965 to their demise in early 1969. In a groundbreaking joint venture between Sanctuary and Universal, this collection splits the band's career in two:

SMALL FACES - ULTIMATE COLLECTION released 26th May 2003 on Sanctuary Records @ www.contactmusic.com
Disc 1 covers their earlier recordings for Decca; Disc 2 spans their Immediate recordings. All of their singles plus key B-sides, album tracks and rarities tell the Small Faces' story properly for the first time.

The Small Faces define the 1960s mod spirit. These four diminutive, stylish, plucky, talented, passionate 'east enders' boasted (in guitarist Steve Marriott) arguably the greatest blue-eyed soul singer in rock history. His background as a child actor lent him enormous on-stage charisma, which belied his size. Moreover, his burgeoning songwriting skills with bassist Ronnie Lane was, at its best, a match for Lennon or McCartney, laced with similarly arch humour.

Between 1965 and 1969 they scored 12 hits, evolving swiftly from a fast-touring, high octane teeny-bop sensation into the mature rock outfit behind the classic No. 1 album, Ogden's Nut Gone Flake. Their music, like that of the Who, the Kinks and the 'Stones, both defined the era while, somehow, remaining timeless. Together with their cult status and mod credentials, their music has been profoundly influential ever since, most famously being cited in the 1990s by the britpop/dadrock crowd (Oasis, Ocean Colour Scene, Blur, Paul Weller et al).
