STAR TREK star Patrick Stewart fled California to return to his native Britain, because he is sick of living in a Republican-run country.

The Yorkshire-born actor admits he was also "missing Britain" after 17 years living in Los Angeles - but insists he was driven to move home after Arnold Schwarzenegger became California Governor last year (03).

Stewart, who played CAPTAIN LUC PICARD on the small and big screen for 15 years, says, "I was becoming increasingly uncomfortable paying my state taxes to a state run by Arnold Schwarzenegger and a federal government run by George W Bush.

"America's current regime is monstrous."
