Grammy Award winner Patti Labelle is heading back to Broadway for the first time in over a decade after signing on to join the cast of hit musical FELA!.
LaBelle will step in for Tony Award winner Lillias White to play the mother of late Afrobeat legend Fela Kuti, while White takes a break from the production to play a series of concerts in Australia in September (10).
The specific dates are expected to be announced shortly, reports the New York Post.
The show will mark LaBelle's first return to Broadway since her 1998 solo concert.
LaBelle previously appeared on Broadway in the musical revival of Your Arms Too Short to Box with God. She has also appeared onstage in the Los Angeles run of touring musical Chicago - as Mama Morton.
