Paul Kelly - Songwriter Kelly To Receive Apra Honour
Rocker Paul Kelly is to be feted at the 2011 Australasian Performing Right Association (Apra) Awards for outstanding services to Australian music.
The singer/songwriter will receive the prestigious Ted Albert Award in recognition of his 30-year career at a star-studded ceremony in Sydney on 21 June (11).
Apra CEO Brett Cottle has praised Kelly as a deserving recipient of the Ted Albert prize, named after the Australian independent music pioneer.
Cottle says, "Every year the Apra board honours Ted's memory by conferring an award on someone who has contributed immensely to Australian music. It is difficult to think of an Australian musician or songwriter of the past 30 years who has crafted more distinctly Australian music, with as much universal appeal, as Paul Kelly.
"Paul embodies every attribute and achievement that the Ted Albert Award seeks to achieve (sic)."
Previous winners of the Ted Albert honour include Don Burrows, Jimmy Little, Slim Dusty and Michael Chugg.
