Movie veteran Paul Newman had another chance to show off his car racing skills on Friday night (09APR05), when he got into a highspeed contest with comedian Jay Leno.

Racing enthusiast Newman made an appearance on Leno's chat show, and was challenged to participate in what was billed as the "first ever NBC Grand Prix".

Leno promised the 80-year-old actor, "I'm gonna kick your a*s!" as they walked out to their cars, outside of the studio.

But a silently confident Newman advised, "Pray for your life," before he sped off around the studio's perimeter, leaving Leno lagging and eventually losing.

Newman sped home in his own bright yellow racecar once the interview was over.
