A poster for Paul Thomas Anderson's new movie 'The Master' has been unveiled. The film, which is the first from the director since his Academy Award-nominated 'There Will Be Blood' is already shrouded in mystery and controversy, with some claiming that it takes a thinly veiled look at the formation of the Church of Scientology. This is a claim that has been refuted by one of the film's stars, Philip Seymour Hoffman, who says "I don't know what you've heard and what script you've read, but trust me, it's not about Scientology."

In the movie, Hoffman plays the role of Lancaster Dodd, a man who forms a religious movement, in 1970s America. His wife is played by Amy Adams and Joaquin Phoenix plays the role of his young, troubled protege. Although Hoffman is trying to downplay the connection between the movie and the life of L Ron Hubbard, an article from the New York Times back in April 2012 claimed that Paul Thomas Anderson wanted to screen the movie for Tom Cruise - a high profile member of the Church of Scientology.

The Master won't be release until October this year and so far, all that movie fans have been treated two are two teaser trailers and now, the poster. The poster doesn't give much away, either, shrouding the controversial film even deeper in mystery. It's designed in the style of a wine label and simply contains the text "Written and Directed by Paul Thomas Anderson, then beneath the movie title, the names of the principle actors, Joaquin Phoenix, Philip Seymour Hoffman and Amy Adams, followed by "This - 2012 - fall." The release date for The Master is scheduled for October 12, 2012.
