Singer Paula Abdul has applauded pop star Nicole Scherzinger for seeking out help to overcome her longtime battle with bulimia.

The former Pussycat Dolls star confessed to struggling with the eating disorder in a new Tv expose and credited her race ace boyfriend Lewis Hamilton with encouraging her to get healthy.

Now Abdul, who once sat alongside Scherzinger as a judge on U.S. reality show The X Factor, has heaped praise on the 33 year old for having the strength to seek help for a condition she also battled.

She tells People.com, "She knew that she needed to get help, and she got help. You can't ever do those things alone. It's very important that you get the proper help that you need.

"She's a beautiful girl, and I'm happy that she's gone through the healing process and recovery. I love Nicole. She's a good one."

The Straight Up hitmaker originally opened up about her bulimia battle in 1994 after entering a rehab facility. She is now a spokesperson for the National Eating Disorders Association.
