Reporters from Entertainment Weekly had an insider's preview to the dramatic events of Gossip Girl's 100th episode. They attended a special screening of the chaotic adventures last week, where the show's producers, Stephanie Savage and Joshua Safran answered questions on what viewers could expect from the milestone episode, as well as those that will follow.
The major shock of the episode was Blair (played by Leighton Meester) fleeing her wedding to Prince Louis (Hugo Becker) with Dan Humphrey (played by Penn Badgley). Blair's eleventh-hour to abandon the nuptials came after her old flame, Chuck Bass (Ed Westwick) professed his eternal love for Blair. The complex plotline will, according to Entertainment Weekly have Chuck and Blair fans "steaming." The producers told reporters, though, that the chemistry between Dan and Blair was too forceful to ignore: "From the beginning we always felt like there was a really strong connection between the two of them. We always knew they were going to become friends; there was a question of whether it was ever going to be more than that."
Gossip Girl, which also stars Taylor Momsen and Kristen Bell, is currently in its fifth season. The other big shock of the show's 100th episode was that the Gossip Girl's identity was revealed. A review on smallscreenscoop.com criticised the show's producers for cramming such an important revelation into a single episode, seemingly as an "afterthought" to the drama of the wedding.
