Chrissie Hynde And Juliet Stevenson Announced As Special Guests At Pet Shop Boys Bbc Late Night Prom In July 2014
The BBC Proms is delighted to announce singer-songwriter Chrissie Hynde and actress Juliet Stevenson will appear as special guests at the Pet Shop Boys Late Night Prom at the Royal Albert Hall on Wednesday 23 July, joining Neil Tennant and Chris Lowe as the electro-pop duo make their BBC Proms debut.
Joining the BBC Concert Orchestra, BBC Singers and conductor Dominic Wheeler, Chrissie Hynde, founder of rock band The Pretenders, will be guest vocalist in a selection of Pet Shop Boys songs which are to be performed at the Prom in new orchestral arrangements by film composer Angelo Badalamenti.
Leading British actress Juliet Stevenson will narrate the world premiere of a brand-new work composed by Tennant and Lowe, A Man from the Future, based on the life and work of codebreaker Alan Turing, who in December 2013, was granted a royal pardon for his homosexuality almost 60 years after his death. Written for voice, orchestra, spoken word, electronic instruments and choir, the text is based on a biography of Turing, Alan Turing: The Enigma, by Andrew Hodges with whom Tennant and Lowe have collaborated on the work.
The Prom will also feature the overture to the Pet Shop Boys' first world tour in 1991, Performance, which will be heard live in concert for the first time.
Returns only for seated tickets. Up to 1400 Promming (standing) tickets at £5 are available on the day for every Prom at the Royal Albert Hall. For more information please visit http://www.bbc.co.uk/proms
